Exhibited with ICOSA Collective and Spellerberg Projects at the Main St. Gallery in Lockhart, TX, from January 7-28th, 2022.
The Artist’s Studio Exhibition continues Alex Renbarger’s use of a muted color pallette, simplified objects, and dramatic lighting while sharing not only their paintings, but paintings within paintings to display a closer look at what a painter sees on a daily basis. This collection utilizes repetition through repeated places, objects, and colors, to discuss the mundaneness of every life and the comfort that kind of routine can bring. As well as showcasing time passing through both dramatic and subtle lighting changes.
With titles such as Finding Comfort in Safety and Baby Steps, they open up a conversation about mental health and it’s connection with painting. How they use painting as a safe space where they can focus on self growth and moving forward while struggling with mental illness; and then sharing that intimacy and vulnerability in their work.
